Here’s another video from some projects that we’ve been doing. This is a bit of an amalgamation of several jobs. This particular one was a horse chestnut tree removal. As you can see the proximity to the property here, it was just crazy, it was ridiculous. I mean there’s so much over the house, this part of the extension of the house and then the main part of the properties behind it.
I think it was under two metres away from this part of the property, and this part of the tree was over the ridge line. It was quite a technical removal, so it involved a lot of rigging.
You can just see we’ve now started to remove some of the lower branches. The climbing line is in here and the rigging line, you can’t quite see, but you can just now see just the amount of clearance and light that’s bringing this window on the property. So you can see the amount of light that is being brought down.
So the reasons for this removal wasn’t a light positioning, the tree was dangerous. There was an insurance report saying it was too close. Also because obviously the foundations of the house are being compromised by the tree. Here you can see there’s a roof light, so again, the amount of light you can see already flooding in.
You can just see what’s happening as we’re working our way up, and the branches are being removed through this way,
Again more of it’s coming away from the house. This is the rigging line here. So what happens is the rigging line is attached via a running bowline onto the branches we want to remove.
Or we can sometimes use knotless rigging with slings and carabiners, but that’s sometimes just down to personal preference with a climber.
Here’s the rigging line itself, with Craig up in the tree. Getting quite a lot of it down already. I’ll go back to that one, as in what Craig was doing on here, he just cleaned out the gutter. Because it’s been so long the gutter was full. And there’s a hedgehog gutter brush which had been displaced.
Also part of the actual guttering had come off, so Greg, while we were there, he kindly just put it all back together.
And again you can see more of the trees coming down, just the top section left. Mainly just the main barrel. There’s also the other problem that it was covered in ivy as well, which is not a great thing for the tree.
But I’ll discuss that maybe on another job. And again, the pull line is in. We’re now getting ready to defollet. So we’ve got the rope attached via a running bow line. Craig is underneath there. You can just see that line there, that’s the gob. So he’s cut his gob in, getting ready to do the back cut. And then the tree’s down on the ground.
But as you can see from the roof, etc its so much brighter and there’s no damage being done.
This is the same house but a different tree. This tree posed even more problems. What you’ve got here is a house extension. Under this corner here there is an 8,000 pound hot tub and you’ve got power lines.
You’ve got a glazed conservatory and a garage. So lots of things, lots of obstacles. On this particular job we used a cherry picker for part of the job. Again just some photographs.
What this is here, this is called a thundersling. This is a rigging device. This enables, the control of the speed of the piece of wood that you’re dropping.
So depending on the weight of the piece of wood you’re dropping, depends on the amount of rope that will go through the eyes on the thundersling. And again, just see here is the rigging line. Craig’s just working himself up and down the tree. Slowly processing it. And again, you can just see the obstacles that we had.
It was quite a technical one, but it all went really, really smoothly. And this is just a view over the house, as you can see. And this is the other tree that we did on the first photographs.
Getting there now. Stripping it down to a pole. And we left it around about eight feet high and that was left to be a feature.
And there you can go, more light both to the grass but also to the house. So a technical rigging job involved both using the cherry picker for some of it, but the main amount of rigging was done via Craig in the actual tree itself.
